Do I have to be Proficient In English To obtain citizenship?

You must be capable of reading, writing and speaking ordinry English determined by a test executed by an immigration examiner unless

<li>You are fifty years old and lived in the U.S. as a permanent resident for twenty years or</li>
<li>You are fifty-five years old and lived in the U.S. as a permanent resident for 15 years at the time of filing</li>
