Brief overview summarizing the immigration requirements for international travel for visa holders.
Basic Documents Required for Travel (and re-entry to the U.S.):
- Passport valid for at least six months;
- Valid U.S. visa and original Form I-797, Notice of Approval (for Nonimmigrant Petition based cases);
- Valid Advance Parole for pending adjustment of status applicants;
- Travel-validated and authorized I-20 for F-1, M-1 and J-1 students and their dependents;
- Valid Lawful Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”) for U.S. permanent residents;
Please know that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has automated Form I-94 and no longer provides a paper I-94 form. In order to obtain your record of admission after being admitted to the U.S., you should request it at www.cbp.gov/I94.
Please also note that DHS and DOS policy often changes with little or no prior notice so we encourage you to check with your immigration professional prior to your travel.
Safe travels!
